First Day of School 2011

Today blew by! So much to do. We spent a lot of time learning about how to be a fourth grader. Here are some of the highlights:

• Lunch is late, so bring a snack for our 10:45 snack break
• Planners are to be signed each night. The planners come home each night and return to school each morning.
• The new playground is awesome! Mrs. Swanson gave us an orientation on the new equipment along with a refresher on lunchroom routines.
• When each student walks in the door in the morning they should have three things: 1. Planner & Pencil 2. Homework folder with any completed work, 3. A book to read.

First Day of School

One day down ... many more exciting days to go. We spent the day learning about how the classroom is set up, discussed teacher/student expectations, learned how to use the SMART Response clickers, and wrote letters to be opened on June 8th, 2011 (the last day of school).

Homework:
Read 20 minutes
Finish balloon project (if needed)
Library and Music tomorrow

Who Am I?
1. Likes gym class best.
2. Likes to spend free time training the family dog

4. Would buy many pets if he/she had $1000.

First Day

The school year is off to a good start. We spend the morning learning about 4th grade (what we are going to do and how we are going to do it). The highlights of the day, according to the kids, were: gym, story time, and the Senteos.

A little bit of homework today. Sorry, but it had to happen eventually. The homework is "A Letter to Me." The students are to write a letter to themselves to be opened on the last day of school. The idea behind this is to capture the students' thoughts and feeling on the first day and how they change over the course of the school year. It's a bit like a postal time capsule. I'm looking for at least 4 sentences (what they did today, things that they like, things that they are looking forward to, etc.). Some students finished in class, but the majority needed a little extra time that we didn't have today.

First Day of School

A rainy start to the school year did little to dampen the spirits of the 27 new fourth graders in Mr. O'Brien's class. Some of the highlights:

• Wrote a letter to themselves to be opened on the last day of school
• Six students shared their Brown Bag homework assignments
  
• Organized their school supplies
• Went to Media with Mrs. Williams, learned how to take an AR test on the new system, and checked out books
• Enjoyed Phy. Ed. with Mr. Halvarson
• Learned more about Mr. O'Brien
